3. Sensitive Personal Information
Under certain privacy laws, including the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), some categories of personal information are considered "sensitive." We want to be transparent about how this may apply to Loxie:
Content Preferences
When you select topics or books to learn, your choices may reveal information about your interests, beliefs, or values. For example, selecting faith-based content (such as Biblical books or Christian topics) may indicate religious beliefs or preferences. We collect this information solely to deliver the personalized learning experience you requested.
How We Use Sensitive Information
We use sensitive personal information only as necessary to provide the Services you have requested. Specifically, we use your content preferences to deliver relevant learning content, personalize your experience, and recommend related topics. We do not use sensitive personal information for advertising purposes, and we do not sell or share sensitive personal information with third parties for their own purposes.
Your Rights
You have the right to limit our use of your sensitive personal information to what is necessary to perform the Services. Since we already limit our use in this way, no additional action is required. You may delete your account at any time to remove all personal information, including content preferences.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
• Deliver personalized learning sessions and content based on your selected books and topics

• Serve advertisements (in the free tier of the Services)
• Generate affiliate commissions when you purchase books through our links
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
5. Automated Decision-Making and Personalization
Loxie uses algorithms to personalize your learning experience. Specifically:
How Our Algorithm Works
Our spaced repetition algorithm automatically determines which questions to present to you and when, based on your past answers, confidence ratings, and learning patterns. The goal is to optimize your long-term retention by presenting material at the ideal time for review.
What This Means for You
• The algorithm prioritizes questions you're likely to forget soon
• Your confidence ratings directly influence question scheduling
• The system adapts to your individual learning patterns over time
• No human reviews individual learning decisions
Your Rights Regarding Automated Decisions
Under GDPR Article 22 and similar laws, you have the right to request human review of automated decisions that significantly affect you. While our algorithm decisions relate to educational content delivery (not decisions with legal or similarly significant effects), you may contact us at [email protected] if you have concerns about how the algorithm is working for you.
6. Legal Basis for Processing
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:
• Contract Performance: Processing necessary to provide the Services you requested (e.g., delivering learning content, managing your account, operating the personalization algorithm)
• Consent: Where you have given explicit consent (e.g., marketing communications, optional analytics, selecting sensitive content categories)
• Legitimate Interests: Processing necessary for our legitimate business interests, such as improving the Services, preventing fraud, analyzing crash reports, and ensuring security, provided those interests do not override your fundamental rights
• Legal Obligation: Processing required to comply with applicable laws and regulations
7. AI Content and User Input
Loxie uses artificial intelligence to generate personalized educational content based on your selected preferences, including books, topics, and learning goals. This includes questions, explanations, summaries, and other learning materials within the Apps, as well as AI-generated audio content in our podcast episodes ("Learn with Loxie").
Our podcast episodes feature AI-generated voices created using third-party AI tools. These episodes are clearly identified as AI-generated content.
In the future, you may be able to submit custom inputs such as book titles or requests. When you do, those inputs remain yours, while any AI-generated content created from them is the property of Loxie. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive license to use this AI content for individual educational purposes.
All generated content is intended to support your learning and may be similar to content shown to other users.
Health Disclaimer
Loxie is not a medical service and does not process protected health information (PHI). We are not subject to or compliant with HIPAA regulations. Do not submit health-related personal information through the app. Educational content about health topics is for informational purposes only and is not medical advice.
8. Advertising and Tracking
The free tier of the Services may include advertisements. We work with third-party advertising partners who may collect and use information about your use of the Services to deliver targeted advertisements.
What Advertisers May Collect
• Device identifiers and advertising IDs
• Information about ads viewed and clicked
• General location information (country/region level)
• Content and usage patterns to personalize ad delivery
Your Choices
• Opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking; Android: Settings > Google > Ads)
• Upgrade to a Premium subscription for an ad-free experience
• Use browser-based opt-out tools provided by advertising industry groups such as the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) or Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA)
Please note that opting out of personalized advertising does not prevent the display of all advertisements; you may still see non-personalized ads.
Affiliate Links
Loxie includes affiliate links to third-party retailers (such as Amazon.com) for book purchases. When you click these links, the third-party retailer may collect information about your visit and any purchases. We receive a commission on qualifying purchases, but we do not receive your personal purchase details from these retailers. Please review the privacy policies of third-party retailers for information about their data practices.
9. Third-Party Services
We may share your data with trusted third-party service providers for purposes such as:
• Hosting and infrastructure (cloud services, databases)
• Analytics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring
• Payment processing (via Apple App Store and Google Play)
• Communication tools (push notifications, email delivery)
• Advertising networks and partners
• Podcast hosting and distribution platforms
These providers are contractually required to protect your information, maintain confidentiality, and only use it to perform their assigned functions. We do not sell your personal data to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
We may use aggregated, anonymized data (e.g., session counts, completion rates, book trends) to analyze usage patterns and to inform product improvements. This data cannot be used to identify individual users.

10. Cookies and Website Tracking
When you visit our website, we may use cookies and similar technologies to enhance functionality, remember your preferences, and gather usage statistics.
Types of Cookies We Use
• Essential Cookies: Required for basic website functionality (e.g., session management, security)
• Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how visitors use our website (e.g., pages visited, time on site)
• Advertising Cookies: Used to deliver relevant advertisements and track ad campaign performance
Your Cookie Choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. However, blocking essential cookies may affect website functionality. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising through industry opt-out tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) at aboutads.info or Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) at optout.networkadvertising.org.
11. Communications and Email
We may send you the following types of communications:
Transactional Communications
These are essential messages related to your account and use of the Services, including account verification, password resets, security alerts, and subscription confirmations. You cannot opt out of transactional communications while maintaining an active account.
Learning Communications
These messages support your learning experience, including practice reminders, streak alerts, progress updates, and personalized learning tips. You can manage your preferences for these communications in your app settings or by visiting unsubscribe.loxie.app.

Your Communication Preferences
Each non-transactional email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also manage all your email preferences at unsubscribe.loxie.app. Please note that even if you unsubscribe from marketing emails, we may still send you transactional communications related to your account.
12. Do Not Track Signals
Some web browsers transmit "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals to websites. Because there is no common industry standard for interpreting DNT signals, the Services do not currently respond to DNT signals. However, we honor user-enabled global privacy controls, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. When we detect a GPC signal from your browser or device, we will treat it as a valid opt-out request for the sale or sharing of your personal information.
13. Local Data Caching
Loxie may temporarily cache non-sensitive data (e.g., your current session or streak progress) locally on your device to improve performance. Sensitive or account-level data is always encrypted and stored securely on our servers.
14. Your Privacy Rights

Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information
You have the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to perform the Services. As described in Section 3, we already limit our use of sensitive personal information in this way.
Right to Non-Discrimination

17. Children's Privacy
Loxie is not intended for children under the age of 13. During account registration, users are required to confirm that they are at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] so we can take appropriate action.
Users between 13 and 17 years of age must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Services.

• IP addresses: Retained for no more than 30 days unless required for security purposes
Account Inactivity
Loxie is a spaced repetition learning platform, and consistent engagement is essential for effective knowledge retention. If your account is inactive for an extended period, we reserve the right to delete your learning history, progress data, and personalized content after 60 days of inactivity. We may terminate accounts that have been inactive for 24 months or more after providing notice to the email address on file.

If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home jurisdiction.
